If you use ChatGPT, Gemini, or other AI tools, you are using technology powered by companies like Nvidia.
On August 26, 2026, Nvidia reported its latest earnings. The company had another huge quarter, with data-center revenue reaching $89 billion, up 117% from the year before. Nvidia also predicted $108 billion in revenue for its next quarter.
That sounds like an easy reason to buy the stock. But investing is not that simple.
Nvidia's stock initially moved around after the earnings report because investors already expected the company to perform extremely well. This is an important idea in investing: a company can have great results, but its stock can still fall if those results are not better than what investors expected.
Nvidia's success is closely connected to the growth of AI. Companies like Microsoft, Meta, and other tech giants are spending huge amounts of money building AI systems, which creates massive demand for Nvidia's chips.
If I were investing in Nvidia, I would not buy the stock just because AI is popular. I would look at whether Nvidia can keep growing its revenue and profits as competition increases.
I would also avoid putting all my money into one AI company. Nvidia could continue winning, but the technology industry changes quickly.
The biggest lesson is simple: a popular company is not automatically a good investment.
Before buying a stock, ask yourself two questions: "How strong is this company?" and "How much am I paying for it?"
Nvidia shows why both questions matter.
