Nvidia has become one of the biggest names in the AI boom. Its chips power many of the AI systems behind tools like ChatGPT.
On February 25, 2026, Nvidia reported another extremely strong quarter. The company also projected $78 billion in revenue for its next quarter. But instead of rising, Nvidia's stock fell more than 4% the next day. The Nasdaq also dropped 1.7%.
So why would investors sell a company that is making so much money?
The answer is expectations.
Investors do not only care about whether a company is doing well. They care about whether it is doing better than they expected. Nvidia had already become extremely valuable because investors expected huge growth from AI. That meant even great results were not necessarily enough to push the stock higher.
This is an important lesson for new investors: a great company is not always a great stock at every price.
If I were investing in Nvidia, I would not buy simply because AI is popular. I would look at Nvidia's revenue growth, profits, competition, and how much companies are actually willing to spend on AI.
I also would not panic because the stock fell. If Nvidia's business continued growing while the stock became cheaper, I would be more interested in buying. If AI spending started slowing down, I would be more cautious.
The bigger lesson is simple. The stock market is about expectations, not just headlines.
Nvidia showed that even when a company has amazing results, investors can still sell if they think the stock has become too expensive.
For young investors, this is a useful reminder: don't just ask, "Is this company good?" Ask, "Is the stock price reasonable compared with what I expect the company to earn?"
