On September 9, 2025, Apple held its annual iPhone launch event. Apple introduced the iPhone 17 lineup, including the new iPhone Air, along with new Apple Watches and AirPods Pro.
For most people, this was just another iPhone launch. For investors, it was a big question: Will people actually buy it?
Apple makes a huge amount of money from selling iPhones. If the new phones become popular, Apple could see higher sales and profits. That could help its stock. But if customers decide their current phones are good enough, the launch could disappoint investors.
This is why investors were watching Apple's stock around the event. The stock market often reacts to expectations before a product is even released. Investors may buy a stock because they expect good news, but once the news arrives, the stock might not rise because that good news was already expected.
This is sometimes called "buy the rumor, sell the news."
If I were investing in Apple, I would not buy the stock just because I liked the new iPhone. I would look at actual sales, revenue, and Apple's future growth.
If iPhone sales were strong and Apple continued growing its services and AI business, I would be more interested in holding the stock. If sales were weak and Apple's growth slowed, I would reconsider.
The bigger lesson is that a product launch can affect billions of dollars in the stock market. Something as simple as a new phone can change investor expectations and move one of the world's biggest companies.
For young investors, the lesson is simple: pay attention to the products and apps people use every day, but do not confuse popularity with a good investment. A company can make a product everyone loves and still have an overpriced stock.
